Care & keeping

Can alpacas eat grass clippings?

A

Short answer

No. Lawn clippings ferment and mold quickly, may include toxic plants, and can cause choke and colic.

Fresh-cut clippings heat up in a pile within hours. Alpacas gulp them, risking choke and severe digestive upset. Garden waste may also contain deadly ornamental plants like yew.
