Most alpacas don't enjoy being touched on the head or face. Many tolerate gentle touches on the neck and back once they trust you.
Alpacas are not cuddly like dogs. Their natural defense is to avoid being grabbed. Let them approach you, offer a flat hand, and touch the side of the neck rather than the head.
Never over-handle young male crias; it can cause aberrant behavior later in life.
