Short answer
A baby alpaca is called a cria (pronounced KREE-ah), from the Spanish word for 'baby' or 'offspring'.
Crias are born after an 11.5-month pregnancy and weigh about 15-19 lb. They usually stand within an hour and nurse within a few hours.
After weaning at around 6 months, a young alpaca is sometimes called a weanling or 'tui' until about a year old.
